Allalinhorn 4027m

My first 4000m peak! Allalinhorn East Ridge 4027m

The Hohlaubgrat (East Ridge) of the Allalin is tranquil and scenically grand. It is a very popular climb that is not too demanding.  The point of departure is the Hohlaub/Metro-Window at 3200m. Once exiting the tunnel you step into a different world free from skiers and tourists. The trail leads you along an impressive snow ridge that provides excellent views and assumes the full character of an alpine ascent. Before reaching the summit you will conquer a short, but exhilarating rock step that will require easy scrambling. There is hardly a more demanding and at the same time more fascinating way to reach the summit of the Allalin. If you master this climb, then you've got what it takes to tackle more challenging North faces.   +++  Difficult tour on ice ++    Good average athletic fitness   Ascent 500m in 3hrs Descent 500m in 1hr     Group tour CHF 345 per person Private tour from CHF 650   Equipment required: climbing harness crampons with antibott 2 ice axes hiking pole windproof and warm clothing (possibly gaiters) gloves beanie or hat sunglasses and sun protection Equipment hire:  CHF 25 for climbing harness, crampons, ice axes & hiking pole

Alphubel 4206m

The Metro Alpin takes us up to the Mittelallalin at 3500m. From here we follow the first part of the Allalin ascent that leads us to the Feejoch at 3826m. The connecting rock ridge to the prominent Feekopf is short but exciting and requires some easy scrambling. The elegant snow ridge to the extensive summit plateau leads across an aesthetically formed Eisnase (ice nose). The climb, although technically not very demanding, requires a good measure of fitness. The descent follows down the East flank towards the Längfluh.   ++  Tour snow tour of medium difficulty - easy rock part ++  Good average athletic fitness   Ascent 700m in 4hrs Descent 1300m in 2.5hr     Group tour CHF 270 per person Private tour from CHF 730   Equipment required: climbing harness crampons with antibott ice axe hiking pole windproof and warm clothing (possibly gaiters) gloves beanie or hat sunglasses and sun protection Equipment hire:  CHF 25 for climbing harness, crampons, ice axe & hiking pole

From here the trail leads across glaciers, entertaining rock-climbing sections and snowfields to a small and airy summit. The 900m ascent will be rewarded with awe-inspiring panoramic vistas. If you mastered the Allalinhorn then you are ready for the Weissmies. Weissmies literally translated means "white mossâ" in Swiss German dialect in reference to the dramatic covering of the impressive glacier clinging to the peak. After the cable car ride to Hohsaas at 3100m, the ascend leads us below the ice-armoured North West face with its towering seracs and passes through a glacier wonderland before cresting on to the final ridge.
